Seasonal Ingredients We’re Loving This Winter

Three winter seasonal favorites using root vegetables, citrus, and herbs. Roasted root vegetables, roasted asparagus with a ctirus topping, and a winter salad.

Winter events call for food that feels comforting, intentional, and thoughtfully sourced. At Simply Fresh Events, we love using the colder months as an opportunity to lean into seasonal ingredients that bring warmth, depth, and balance to every menu — whether we’re planning a wedding, corporate event, or private gathering.

Here are some of the winter ingredients we’re loving right now, and how they shine in winter menus.

Root Vegetables

Hearty, grounding, and endlessly versatile, winter root vegetables are a staple this time of year.

Think:

  • Roasted carrots, parsnips, and sweet potatoes
  • Beets served warm or chilled in composed salads
  • Turnips and celery root blended into purées or gratins

These ingredients add richness and structure to plates while still allowing for elegant presentation — perfect for winter weddings and seated corporate meals alike.

Winter Greens

While summer gets all the credit for fresh produce, winter greens bring their own kind of magic.

We’re especially loving:

  • Kale and Tuscan kale
  • Swiss chard
  • Arugula

These greens hold up beautifully to roasting, braising, and warm vinaigrettes, making them ideal for winter salads, grain bowls, and plated entrées.

Citrus

Citrus is winter’s secret weapon. Bright, fresh, and vibrant, it cuts through richer flavors and adds balance to seasonal menus.

Expect to see:

  • Oranges and blood oranges
  • Grapefruit
  • Lemons and limes

From citrus-forward dressings and marinades to garnishes and desserts, these ingredients bring a much-needed pop of brightness during colder months.

Whole Grains

Winter is the perfect season to embrace hearty grains that add warmth and texture to menus.

Our favorites include:

  • Farro
  • Quinoa
  • Barley
  • Israeli couscous

These grains work beautifully in grain bowls, salads, and as bases for build-your-own stations — offering satisfying, inclusive options for a variety of dietary needs.

Warm Spices & Herbs

Winter menus shine when subtle spice and fresh herbs are used thoughtfully.

We’re loving combinations that include:

  • Cumin, coriander, and smoked paprika
  • Rosemary, thyme, and sage
  • Ginger and warming spice blends

These flavors add depth without overwhelming, creating menus that feel cozy yet refined.
