Making Your Mitzvah Memorable

Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are a joyous time for your child and family alike, to celebrate the start of their adult journey into the Jewish faith.  They are also a GREAT reason to throw an amazing party, and they are meant to be memorable.  When beginning the planning process for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah it can seem and be overwhelming.  This super easy checklist from The Bash is a great place to start. Or, are you looking for perhaps a unique theme that will help guide your planning process?  Party Slate has a great list of 47 Bar/Bat Mitzvah themes that you should also check out.  Here is one of our most memorable Bat Mitzvah’s that we have done recently.

Millie’s Night to Remember captured our client’s vision of an exciting and inspired Bat Mitzvah without limits on creativity or design. When deliberating on the theme, it became clear that two key things mattered the most: catering delicious food to palates – both young and old – AND everyone should have fun!

Choosing a fully custom caterer for your event allows you the control and flexibility of appealing to a range of palates. Bespoke menus offer versatile benefits, but they are especially crucial for events that span generations and dietary restrictions – like mitzvahs & quinces. Any caterer will tell you that tons of adult guests love to dig in at the kid’s stations, but at Simply Fresh Events, we deliver an elevated experience for everyone!

We began the evening with an adults-only cocktail hour at Glen Echo Park’s Ballroom Annex, featuring a custom champagne wall, stationed baked brie with seasonal fruit, passed mini lobster rolls, grilled lamb lollipops with tzatziki, mini Maryland crabcakes with old bay aioli, slow roasted beef tenderloin sandwiches with horseradish cream on mini brioche buns, and ahi tuna wontons with sriracha and cucumber. Meanwhile, in the Bumper Car Pavilion, the kids enjoyed soft pretzel bites with dipping cheese, traditional all-beef mini sliders, and bite-size smoked chicken tacos.

All guests enjoyed a dinner-by-the-bite experience, which kicked off immediately after cocktail hour. Food trucks were also brought in to add to the fun ambiance of Glen Echo Park while guests strolled the luminary-lined pathways or sat out by the fire pits. In the Bumper Car Pavilion, cuisine offerings included custom salad, pasta, and taco action stations with a personal chef attendant at each. The street taco station featured beef, smoked chicken, and carnitas proteins paired with fresh pico de gallo,  street corn salad, and various accouterments. The pasta station offered made-to-order pasta plates with a choice of cavatappi, farfalle, and elbow macaroni pasta shapes, with alfredo or marinara sauces and the option to add meatballs, chicken, steamed veggies, and baked garlic bread among others. Guests also enjoyed a make-your-own salad bar with crisp romaine, mixed greens, and various sundries. For the dessert course, we offered a true variety of tasty treats; fire-roasted smore’s at the fire pits, cookies and cream cheesecake bites, key lime, strawberry shortcake, and chocolate mousse dessert shots, finishing off with adorably served milk and warm cookies.

The team at Simply Fresh Events had a blast composing Millie’s Night to Remember, from initial tastings to the end-of-event STRIVE pow-wow. Special shout out to our partners who helped make this event a huge success: Glen Echo Park, Something Vintage Rentals, Select Event Group, Coughlin Transportation Co., The Chocolate Chick, The Roaming Rooster, and The Backyard BOB: Brick Oven Bistro food trucks. Jeff Herbert Music provided a string guitarist for cocktail hour entertainment while the kids enjoyed an outstanding team of MCs from Washington Talent Agency all evening.

It was indeed a night to remember.
