Ideas for Outdoor Ceremonies

Outdoor ceremonies are a stunning way to start off your marriage.  They look great in photos, and allow all of your guests to enjoy a beautiful backdrop for your big moment.  Pinterest can give you over 650 ideas for an outside ceremony, Bridal Guide has 100 different ideas for outdoor ceremonies, but here are a few of our personal favorites. 

At a Vineyard:  The DMV is a great place for winery weddings.  In fact, there are over 100 wineries in the greater Washington area and most of them also do events.  A great way to go venue searching might be to go on a wine tour around town.  Check out this photo from Rocklands Farm Winery in Poolesville, MD from an outdoor ceremony there.

In a Grove of Trees: The good thing about this idea is that there are trees everywhere.  Find some trees that you like and you can make it the perfect backdrop for your ceremony.  The other wonderful thing about getting married in the trees is that you don’t need to add a lot of décor to make it look fantastic.  Rockwood Manor in Potomac, Maryland has a stunning patio within a grove of trees for you to get married in as shown in this photo by J. By the Water:  Being next to the water, can not only be beautiful, it can also be calming to hear the water in the background during the ceremony.  It really doesn’t matter what kind of water you are beside, ocean, lake, river, stream, or even a pond, the water makes for a serene backdrop.  Riverside on the Potomac in Leesburg, Virginia has a beautiful pond that you can get married in front of.

In a Garden: You are already paying your hard earned money for flowers.  Having your ceremony in a garden can alleviate some of those costs as the backdrop is already there for you.  Not only are the flowers and the backdrop free, but you also don’t have to worry about setting up anything!  Photographer Nick Hanyok took this photo at Brookside Gardens in Silver Spring, MD.   At Brookside Gardens there are several different garden options for you to have your ceremony at.

With an Arch:  The best part about getting married with an arch is that it can go ANYWHERE outside.  Find a spot near a pretty fence, near a tree line, or just an open field and you’ve created a beautiful ceremony backdrop with just a easy arch.  The Tannery Barn in Taneytown, MD has several different outdoor spaces for you to have your ceremony.  In the photo below this couple chose a flower arch to help accent their nuptials.
